چکیده

We have developed a protein visualization system based on Java 3DTM. Java 3D provides compatibility among different systems and enables applications to be run remotely through web browsers. However, using Java 3DTM for visualization has some performance issues with it. The primary concerns about molecular visualization tools based on Java 3DTM are in their being slow in terms of interaction speed and in their inability to load large molecules. This behavior is especially apparent when the number of atoms to be displayed is huge, or when several proteins are to be displayed simultaneously for comparison. In this paper we present techniques for organizing a Java 3D scene graph to tackle these problems. We demonstrate the effectiveness of these techniques by comparing the visualization component of our system with two other Java 3DTM based molecular visualization tools. In particular, for Van der Waals display mode, with the efficient organization of the scene graph, we could achieve up to eight times improvement in rendering speed and could load molecules three times as large as the previous systems could.

STORAGE MANAGEMENT ISSUES FOR HIGH PERFORMANCE DATABASE VISUALIZATION by

Database visualization helps the end users extract useful information from database by using visualization techniques. The problem to be solved by database visualization is to find a mapping between high-dimensional spaces that exists in the database and the two-dimensional space that exists on the computer screen. This thesis uses Java data model as an intermediate model to bridge the gap betw...

Cone and possible rod components of the fast photovoltage in the frog eye: a new method of measuring cone regeneration rates in vivo.

ELECTIUCAL potentials produced by the eye or excised retina in the first few msec after an intense flash of light were discovered by BROWN and M~K~I (1964). The “Early Receptor Potential” or the Fast Photovol~~ (FPV), as this response has been called by HAGINS and MCGAUGHY (1967), has been shown to be very probably produced by a molecular change in the rhodopsin or pigment molecules. Texture-based Volume Visualization for Multiple Users on the World Wide Web

We present a texture-based volume visualization tool, which permits remote access to radiological data and supports multi-user environments. The application uses JAVA and the Virtual Reality Modeling Language (VRML), thus it is platform-independent and able to use fast 3D graphics acceleration hardware of client machines. The application allows the shared viewing and manipulation of three-dimen...
